Lonely Dove

Your breath speaks with a hint of sadness

All eyes are turned upon the madness

In your head, you’re always in your head

But so am I

Your words are full of doubt and questions

Focus love on their intentions

Lonely dove, you’ve lost your way lonely dove

So fly on home

Through the air

I’ll be here

Singing songs we sang last year

Get out of your head

Forget where you’ve been

And fly on home

Remember when we’d sit and talk for hours

About our plans and how nothing matters

Simple mind, oh you’ve got a simple mind

But so do I

I know one day we’ll find the answers

To all these prayers, but for now with you

I’m all the time, you and I are all the time

And it's only July

Don’t forget

I’ll be here

Singing songs you’ve yet to hear

Get out of your head

Forget where you’ve been

And fly on home

Way They Thought They Would

I haven't seen the sun in quite a few days

Been wandering in the dark, searching for a way to shine

And mend a broken heart, or find a better lane to joy

That I know is there somewhere

Some trees have tumbled down, some caves have crumbled in

The road has always seemed to ripple with the wind of time

We do our best, and overcome it as we go along

Joining in the same old song

So don't worry about me now

I might be lost, but I will soon be found

Don't forget, nobody got anywhere the way they thought they would

That I can see it all as just a lame excuse

And tell you not to cry, as if I never broke your heart

Reminds me who I am is only one peculiar view

Wish I'd seen the one from you

Cus what do I know about what is truth and what is false?

Everything changes with the neverending pulse of life

All that I know is what is right in front of me

I know that everything will be okay

So don't worry about me now

I might be lost, but I will soon be found

Don't forget, nobody got anywhere the way they thought they would

So don't worry about me now

Cus I was lost, but now you know I'm found

Don't forget, nobody got anywhere the way they thought they would.

Burn

Well, I walked through the shadow of the valley of death, and all that I got was a sunburnt neck. So I kept on walking, and wound up in the ring of fire.

Well, the devil said, "Son, come and listen to me, I'll give you one damn chance on the count of three to save your soul, and go back home."

Well, I knew just what the devil would say. He'd say, "Son, just throw your soul my way. I'll send you on yours, and you can go back home."

"Oh, but if you don't... you're gonna burn baby, burn. You're gonna burn baby, burn."

I looked back on life and the things I'd done, and figured I deserved whatever should come. Oh, my soul, I guess I was home.

And on the count of one, two, three, man, the way he looked at me when I said, "I'll burn baby, burn. I'm gonna burn baby, burn."

Well, I woke up in a hospital bed to the sound of doctors come to check my head. It was a miracle, they said, that I wasn't dead.

Well, a few weeks later on when I was home, I found a note in my coat, and read what it said:

"Son, well done.

You've passed my test,

And now your home.

Love, GOD"

You're gonna burn baby, burn, you're gonna burn. You're gonna burn baby, burn, we're all gonna burn.

Birds and Bees

Once in a while, I go down to the side of the road

Where I said bye to you.

You have been gone so long, I don't know when

I last held you and closed my own eyes.

Seems like nothing can last.

But the birds and the bees will hide in the trees

And swim in the lakes of our pride

The shadows they make will grow tall on the wall

Cause grown men to cry, and strong knees to shake

They came with a flag, and a,

"Thank you, my dear, for the service your son did provide."

I felt my knees break as the world crashed around,

All the things I held dear turned to dust.

But the birds and the bees will hide in the trees

And swim in the lakes of our pride

The shadows they make will grow tall on the wall

Cause grown men to cry, and strong knees to break

"Goodbye my dear, please don't shed but a tear.

I will see you in July.

We will grow happy in our little home,

I will be back before long"

Something There

Don't you always say that you're a lucky one

Sitting where you are right now?

Don't you always feel like you're a chosen one

You belong up in the clouds

But have you ever thought that maybe

You're the one the others should feel sorry for?

And have you ever thought that

There's a chance your head is buried deep beneath ground?

Because I feel like there's something there

I remember when you said you felt so sorry

For how my life had turned

All the things I'd lost along the way

And all of the bridges that had burned

But you seemed to forget about

The people that have watched you turn your back away

And all the lies you've said

To justify the monsters always screaming in your head

So I think you should know I feel sorry for you

So here we are again with all our open wounds

Spilling out on to the ground

Here we are again making the same excuses

The same repeating sound.

But I refuse to sit around

And look at all the things you say there could have been

Oh, the only thing that I can see

Is whatever is coming with the passing wind

But it won’t carry you, so don’t wait like a fool

I can’t tell you where but there’s something there.

House Full of Attics

There's a knock on the door but nobody's home

Just a carton of cigarettes alone on the floor

The couch in the corner is weathered and old

From spending a lifetime supporting lost souls

The kids from the families that just didn't work

The tired accountant who's going berserk

One after one they all seek relief

From all of those ghosts in the attic

Across from the sofa

A red leather chair

All wrapped in plastic

A symbol of care

One, only one ever sat in that seat

A man with a heart of compassion

At the end of his day when they've all come and gone

He walks to the sofa, a crutch to lean on

Collapsing upon it he lights up a cig

And fights with the ghosts in his attic

But fighting's not easy with a red leather chair

Staring him back with a look of despair

He shouts out the truths that are rooted inside

With no one, not no one to believe them

Oh no one, no no one to believe him

Enemies

Hold your fire

Put it down

Did you forget we’re on the same side now?

The barrack’s full of enemies and friends

So call the dogs off,

Put the warrant on the table

Your horses in the stable

Forget about the fables that you’ve read

Society is bred

I hear the city calling my name

Over the ocean never felt so far away

But I speak with my people anyway

Long to be captured feel the romance

Don't want to think about my second chances ending again, again

"Speak now or forever hold your peace

If you're in need of release my knees

Are bowed down on the floor

Don't fight this feeling anymore

Just find out what it’s for, what it’s got in store"

Hold your fire

Put it down

Did you forget we’re on the same side now?

The barrack’s full of enemies and friends

So call the dogs off,

Put the warrant on the table

Your horses in the stable

Forget about the fables that you’ve read

Society is bred

I needed shelter, and I found it your words

Not some ancient proverb or a library reserve

But the promise that the future is just another word for the now

And I won’t forget

Friends

The spirits in the room are telling me that soon

Qe'll sing a new song

The one beneath our doubts, echoing about our chambers

Resonating round

I can hear it now, cutting through the conversation pieces

Let the triumph begin

Listen for those sounds, the dawn is breaking now

Don't let the light escape your point of view

In all the war that surrounds you find peace,

In all the need for the light let the darkness cease

Never question whether you could be the end piece

Just run it back on repeat, and take whatever you see

No damage ever done out does your will for long

So don't falter, for the morning has finally begun

Bear My Soul (another song about Home)

But if I'm not home

Tell em what I I've done

Tell em where I've been

Show em all my flaws

Show em all my sins

I will bare my soul

Till I find my home

I will rest no more

You should know

Im going home

Going home

Home

I heard your longing for me came through as clear as thunder rolling

All of my nights spent hands on the table

Trying to use these tools while I'm able

I'm not building weapons my friend

Don't mean to threaten you friend

I don't know what to say

If you find I'm not home

Tell em what I I've done

Tell em where I've been

Show em all my flaws

Show em all my sins

I will bare my soul

Till I find my home

I will rest no more

You should know

Im going home

Going home

Home
